How long do I grind the coffee beans?

Into fine powder or something more grainy? Does anyone time how long they run the grinder? I remember the character from "Black Hawk Down" saying "it's all in the grind" and I want the secret to the grind.

It really depends on how strong you like your coffee. The stronger more expresso like flavor comes from grinding the coffee into a powder, the less potent stuff is more chunky.

    The finer (longer) you ground the beans…the stronger the coffee.

    I usually grind for just a few seconds until they are soft and completely ground.

    I'm into automatic grinders. This is where you set the dial for the type of grind you want, put in the beans, turn it on and it grinds the beans as called for.
    The type of grind is based on the type of coffee maker you use.

    I like to grind my coffee pretty fine because it makes for a strong cup, which I like. If there is a setting on the grinder I usually take it almost to the "espresso" setting (if I'm just using a regular old single cup filter) but not quite all the way…then it's too fine and you'll be physically shaking for the next four hours. Which may or may not be what you're after, I dunno. And you'll have grounds in your teeth which isn't very becoming. :)
    I'm known around work as the coffee master…I think it's because I brew it so strong. So my grind secret? Fine, but not so fine that grounds can get through the filter.

    Not until it's fine powder, I would say hold the button down about 10 seconds, it's still got some grit but that's okay. I love my fresh ground coffee!

    Depending on how you are making your coffee. In a Bodum { also called a french press} in between med to fine works best . Fine if you are using a espresso machine. In a regular Mr. Coffee type regular ground. The best way to make a cup in my humble opinion is the Bodum using Organic Beans.

    The coarser it is, the more water runs through it and passes the coffee..The finer it is the more flavor is actually in the coffee. Of course it also depends on what kind of machine and filter you have….
